Singapore GP wins 3rd award

For the third time in a month, the 2008 FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix was singled out for excellence by the international motor sports community.

At the glittering Federation Internationale De L'Automobile (FIA) Gala at Monaco on Friday (12th Dec) evening, Singapore Grand Prix was presented with the Promoter of the Year Award. The FIA selected Singapore GP Pte Ltd for "its magnificent effort in organizing Formula One's first ever night race".

Singapore GP's Mr. Ong Beng Seng who collected the award from on behalf of the race promoter said: “On behalf of everyone on the Singapore GP team, thank you for honoring us with this very prestigious award. Staging the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix represents the hard work and industry of quite literally a cast of thousands. This Award honors every single one of them. The event would not be possible without all our partners both in the public and private sectors. In particular I would like to thank the Singapore Government, the Tourism Board and the Ministry of Trade and Industry whose support was amazing."

The FIA Promoter Trophy is one of the major Awards handed out at the FIA Gala. Others awarded were the Formula One Drivers Trophy, Formula One Constructors Trophy, World Rally Championship Drivers Trophy, World Rally Championship Manufacturers Trophy, and the TV Trophy. In an additional award presented during the FIA Gala Formula One Management (FOM) took the Television Trophy for its outstanding coverage of the Singapore night race.

The FIA Award is the third such accolade inside a month. On 11 November, the Marina Bay Street Circuit was named the World-wide Motor Sport Facility of the Year at the Professional Motorsport World Expo Awards 2008 at Cologne, Germany. On Sunday 7th December, the 2008 FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix was presented with the Pioneering and Innovation Award at the Autosport Awards in London.
