Hamilton invited to Race of Champions
Organizers say the newly crowned F1 champion has an "open invitation" to partner with fellow Brit David Coulthard as part of F1 Racing Great Britain.
Should the 23-year-old accept, it would also mark the first time he would face seven time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher on a competitive race track. The German, who will partner with highly touted Sebastian Vettel for Team Germany once again, retired before Hamilton made his F1 debut.
"Lewis has said that he wants to do it," said event organizer Fredrik Johnsson. "It's a question of whether the team will let him and whether it is possible with his obviously very busy schedule at the moment."
Coulthard, who retired from F1 competition this season, said the McLaren driver would be a welcome addition.
"It would certainly help me a great deal. I'd love to ride on his coat-tails and win something."
The Race of Champions is scheduled for December 14th and pits drivers from various motorsport categories against each other on a specially-designed two lane track which will be laid down inside the fabled stadium.
Other drivers who have also been confirmed for the event include Formula One drivers Mark Webber and Jenson Button, five times world rally champion Sebastien Loeb, triple superbike world champion Troy Bayliss, world touring car champion Andy Priaulx, Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen, two time Race of Champions winner Mattias Ekstrom, six time NASCAR race winner Carl Edwards and nine time X-Games gold medalist Travis Pastrana.
