Castroneves qualifying run disallowed

UPDATE “It's hard going to a place where there are so many variables and so many other drivers and competitors," said Castroneves about Chicagoland Speedway, one of the few places on the IndyCar Series’ schedule where he has not claimed victory. “The difference can be one car – even if one car is one mile-an-hour faster when you have the draft, it definitely accomplishes that. What I need to do is what I've been doing since I started racing here, so there is not much of a difference. We've got a goal, and we've got a plan. We need to win, and we're going to try everything we can to do that."

09/06/08 The Indy Racing league has disallowed the qualifying run of Helio Castroneves for Sunday's IndyCar race at Chicagoland because he ran below the white line several times during his 4-lap run and the drivers were specifically told in the drivers meeting to stay above the white line by Brian Barnhart. That means all the drivers move up one position and Castroneves moves to 28th on the grid from his original 4th starting position. This hurts Castroneves' chances of beating Scott Dixon for the title, but if his car is fast he will be able to move up through the field by the end of the race since this is an oval track and passing is easier than, say, a street circuit.
