Many series use HANS Sliding Tethers System

What do drivers in NASCAR's premier series and the Formula 1 World Championship have in common with the weekend warriors on short tracks and drag strips? Drivers in all of these unique forms of competition are now using the Vision Advantage PLUS0x2122 sliding tether system introduced this year by HANS Performance Products.

Rubens Barrichello, who scored a podium finish for the Honda F1 Racing Team under wet conditions at the British Grand Prix earlier this season, is among those utilizing the sliding tethers.

"The HANS Device is now considered a vital part of a driver's safety equipment and rightly so," said Barrichello. "Like all good designs, there is always room for improvement, so when given the opportunity to test an improved tether arrangement I was keen to try it out. I take driver safety very seriously and in working with the technicians from HANS Performance Products I recognized that they share this attitude."

The new Vision Advantage PLUS0x2122 sliding tether system permits improvements in left and right visibility by allowing easy but controlled rotation of a racer's helmet. The proven results are tethers that allow over four times the field of view versus competing head and neck restraints.

"We now have all the movement needed with our heads with all the safety features that the HANS Device offers," said four-time Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet. Gordon's teammate and driver of the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet, Jimmie Johnson, won the Brickyard 400 in July while using the sliding tethers.

The demand for sliding tethers originally came from the weekend warriors in bracket racing on drag strips. "We got feedback from the bracket racers," said Gary Milgrom, Chief Operating Officer at HANS Performance Products. "They wanted to be able to look at the competitor directly alongside. This meant the drag racers had to turn their heads 90 degrees. We decided to develop a system that would accomplish that while maintaining the safety of the HANS Device."
