Wilson passes away following Virginia accident

Following a tragic first lap accident in Sunday’s Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup race, at the Virginia International Raceway, 14 year-old Bermudan competitor Toriano Wilson has sadly passed away in hospital due to his injuries.

Wilson fell on the track during the first lap and was accidentally struck by another rider, Luciano Ribodino, while attempting to get out of the way. Wilson was airlifted to UNC Medical Center for treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead early on Monday.

Ribodino was transported to Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, having suffered a broken left arm and broken left femur. He is in a stable condition.
