Firestone doesn’t foresee issues like Goodyear had at Brickyard

Bridgestone Firestone Motorsports executive director Al Speyer only watched the final 20 laps of Sunday's Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.

But he had plenty of e-mailed updates during the race about Goodyear's tire wear issues.

"Let's hope we don't ever (have a problem like that)," said Speyer, whose Nashville-based company provides tires for the Indy Racing League.

Speyer said Firestone tests its tires repeatedly to ensure they hold up.

"We have had times where we've had to go back to a track repeatedly to find the right solution," he said. "But we went back and found it."

Firestone's contract with the Indy Racing League ends after the 2010 season.

Speyer said if Firestone and the IRL remain happy, the two would remain partners. Speyer did not know if the company would be interested in ever producing NASCAR's tires. Goodyear's contract with NASCAR runs through 2012. The Tennessean
