Fellows to compete in Mexico City

Ron Fellows will partner Leighton Reese in the No. 06 Banner Engineering Pontiac GXP.R in round three of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 Mexico City 250.

Fellows is a three time American Le Mans Series GT1 champion, has two 24 Hours of Le Mans class wins, 19 Trans-Am wins and five NASCAR victories. Fellows has previous experience in the Grand-Am GT category having driven the Pontiac GTO.R at Mid-Ohio in 2006. The sports car veteran will be stepping into the Banner Pontiac that finished third in the last race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

"I haven't tested the GXP.R, but I drove the GTO.R at Mid-Ohio a few years ago with Paul [Edwards] and it was a lot of fun," Fellows said. "We had that race covered and then a suspension problem forced us to DNF. There are some similarities between the GTO.R and the GXP.R I'll be driving in Mexico City. They're racing on a different tire now, but it's a front engine car, built by GM Racing and Pratt & Miller, so I'm sure it will be easy to adapt to and lots of fun!"

The Canadian is also no stranger to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit.

"Racing in Mexico City is very cool, I really like the track. I've run NASCAR races a couple of times there, and ran the full course configuration in 1991 in Trans-Am. I had the pole there, had a puncture during the race and finished second.

"It's a great facility. It's got a big, long front straight that's a good passing zone, and the last corner is really fast. It's now lined with concrete walls, so it's even more challenging. The esses in the back, one after another, get faster and faster, and then the exit is very quick. It's a lot of fun to drive." GM Racing
