Teams to test slicks again in April

(GMM) Formula one teams will once again trial slick tires when testing resumes at the Barcelona circuit in mid April.

Following the first slick tests at Jerez in December, the sport's sole tire supplier Bridgestone on Thursday revealed that teams will once again be provided with "experimental" slicks in anticipation of a rule change for 2009.

"Of course, we are looking to a possible bigger (regulation) change for next season, and that is why we will be evaluating our latest slick development tire when we next test in April," the Japanese marque's technical manager Tetsuro Kobayashi said.

Kobayashi also confirmed that Bridgestone's tires for this season have only been slightly modified compared to 2007.

"We have modified the super soft compound, but this will not be seen in use until later in the year. The other compounds, the hard, medium and soft, are the same as last year," he said.

As was the case last season, Bridgestone's medium and soft compounds will be supplied to teams at the forthcoming Australian grand prix.
