Evernham to join ESPN’s broadcast lineup

Ray Evernham, who is reducing his role with Gillett Evernham Motorsports, has joined ESPN and will be part of the network's NASCAR coverage. Evernham, now a minority owner of the Dodge team he started in 2000, will appear on NASCAR Now, ESPN's daily NASCAR news show, as part of a rotating panel of ESPN analysts.

Evernham will also work as an analyst in ESPN's booth for the Nationwide Series races at Mexico City and New Hampshire. He will also join ESPN's prerace show, NASCAR Countdown, for some races, including the Feb. 16 Nationwide race at Daytona. Evernham appeared on several Nationwide telecasts in 2007 and was also featured in Race Wizard with Ray Evernham on ESPN2.

"We are thrilled to further elevate our NASCAR telecasts with the addition of another former champion in Ray Evernham," said Rich Feinberg, vice president, motorsports, ESPN production. Evernham will join former Cup drivers Dale Jarrett and Rusty Wallace and former Cup crew chief Andy Petree as NASCAR competitors who are now part of ESPN's broadcast team.

"It's an honor for me to be here. It's something I look forward to," Evernham said during a press conference at Daytona Wednesday. "To be able to comment on something I love so much and be involved in an analytical atmosphere works out perfectly for me. I wanted to take some time as I go into a different role in being a minority owner and do some things I enjoy, and for this program to come up and me be a part of this, I'm really looking forward to it.
