Mears car too low in Bud Shootout post-tech

UPDATE NASCAR announced early Sunday evening that the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, which was too low in initial inspection Saturday following the Budweiser Shootout, had passed inspection following further evaluation Sunday at Daytona International Speedway. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Director John Darby had indicated early Sunday afternoon that officials wanted to take another look at the car before deciding whether it had passed or failed inspection. The process took longer than normal because NASCAR officials also had to inspect cars for Daytona 500 qualifying on Sunday.

02/10/08 Casey Mears' Chevy was determined to be too low during Budweiser Shootout postrace inspection. Mears finished sixth in the race, his first with the Hendrick Motorsports Sprint Cup team. Jim Hunter, NASCAR's Vice President of Corporate Communications, said NASCAR will continue investigating the issue today. "It might have some damage," Hunter said. "We'll let you know tomorrow."
