Henzler confirmed as Porsche Works Driver

The news is confirmed this week that long-time Porsche driver, Wolf Henzler, is joining the prestigious sports car marque as a Works driver. It has also been confirmed that he is set to be one of the key players in the Flying Lizards Team’s assault on the American Le Mans Series GT2 Championship.

The 32-year-old German, winner of the 2006 Porsche Cup (which is awarded to the most successful driver worldwide in a privately-run Porsche racing car), will once again be seen at the wheel of a 911 GT3 RSR in one of the most competitive GT series in the world. He re-joins the Flying Lizards, with whom he raced in 2006, as part of the most experienced driver line up in the team’s history. It has not yet been announced with whom he will be partnered this season.

Henzler has been racing Porsche cars since 2000 and has enjoyed multiple victories since that time, including the 2004 Porsche Michelin Supercup title where he took nine wins from 12 rounds. Most recently he finished in a strong third place in the 2007 ALMS GT2 Championship in a Tafel Racing Porsche GT3, with six podium finishes to his credit, and was keen to remain within the Porsche fold.

Wolf Henzler said of the news: “To be a Porsche factory driver is what I was looking for when I started with the Supercup; it was my dream and, now, that dream has come true. I’m really looking forward to being with the Lizards again – I have very good memories of 2006 and they are a very good team. I will be pushing very hard all year to repay the faith that Porsche has shown in me."

Hartmut Kristen, Porsche’s head of motorsport, adds: “I am very glad we have succeeded in gaining Wolf Henzler as an additional strength for our team of works drivers. I have been following his career for years now. I value his consistency, his experience and his basic turn of speed."
