Brian France became NASCAR's chairman and CEO four years ago. Bill France Sr., Brian's grandfather, founded NASCAR in December 1947. Brian's father, Bill Jr., took charge in January 1972. A boom from the mid-1990s through the middle of this decade has cooled the past two years. France, 45, sat down Friday with Republic contributor Michael Knight for an exclusive interview wearing his best rose colored glasses as NASCAR's popularity continues to shrink under his watch.
