Long Beach gets greener

Toyota Grand Prix ticket sales got the green light Monday – and the 2008 event also will be a little green. The Green Power Prix-View was added to the growing list of Grand Prix to-dos.

The on-track demonstration of fuel-efficient vehicles will take place before the Champ Car World Series grand finale on Sunday, April 20.

"It's a recognition of the fact that our nation, as well as other countries around the world, are moving in a direction of finding energy solutions to problems around the world," said Grand Prix Association President & CEO Jim Michaelian.

"It's a sport involved with the use of energy, and it's important to preview where the trends are going and make people aware of what's being done to make vehicles more fuel-efficient."

The 34th annual Grand Prix, which takes place April 18-20, features the Champ Car World Series, the Champ Car Atlantic Championship, the EZ Lube Team Drift Challenge, the American Le Mans Series and the 32nd Annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race.

The race also includes a lifestyle expo, concerts, and other events, such as the April 17 Tecate Thunder Thursday on Pine Avenue, leading up to the three-day event.

In addition to the Green Prix on the track, the event will have energy efficiency on display at the "Lifestyle and Alternative Energy Expo." The expo runs all three days of the race in the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center. LB Press Telegram
