Ecclestone hoping for controversial end to 2007

It appears that Bernie Ecclestone is hoping for even more controversy to finish off the incident riddled, publicity generating 2007 Formula one championship season after stating that an on track coming together of the two McLaren drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, who are currently leading the world championship, would generate a lot of publicity.

Speaking to the Times, Ecclestone admitted that he would love to see more on track battles such as the ones between classic McLaren teammates, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna back in the '80s and that what we were witnessing right now between the two drivers from Woking could be a very similar situation.

“Imagine if that happened on the last lap of the last race, then the guy that was leading at the time, points-wise, would be the winner. So it would be a controversial end to the championship."

The scene has already been set for a major battle after the first lap bantering between the duo at the recent Belgian Grand Prix. While Alonso denied that he deliberately pushed his teammate onto the grass, even Ecclestone agreed with Hamilton’s version…..

“I think he [Alonso] tried to take him off – well, it looked like it, didn’t it?" he said.
