Alonso ‘no comment’ on Paris absence

(GMM) Fernando Alonso on Thursday insisted that he is focused on the Belgian grand prix, despite the goings-on in Paris.

The reigning world champion was among a lone few recognizable McLaren figures in the Spa-Francorchamps paddock, as the Mercedes-powered team fights possibly for its medium-term survival at the World Motor Sport hearing.

But even though many believe the health of his championship points tally is in serious jeopardy, 26-year-old Alonso told a news conference that his only thoughts are for the weekend of racing ahead of him.

"I am concentrating 100 per cent on this paddock, this track and winning this race. I won't have two seconds to think (about anything else)," Alonso said in Belgium.

He would not explain why, unlike his teammates Lewis Hamilton and Pedro de la Rosa, he did not also travel to Paris.

"No comment," the Spaniard answered.

"I will not comment (on) anything about what is happening today (in Paris); the answer will be the same as before.

"What can and cannot happen in Paris today … I'm not in that matter," Alonso said.
