Ferrari defend lack of team tactics

(GMM) Ferrari's sporting boss has played down suggestions that the Italian outfit should have employed team tactics in Turkey.

The Maranello based team's two cars were dominant on Sunday at Istanbul, where pole sitter Felipe Massa led home teammate Kimi Raikkonen.

But Finn Raikkonen, who was a point ahead of Massa before the 58-lap race, set easily the quickest lap of the race, and earlier seemed impatient although unable to get past his Brazilian cohort.

"The race was really decided yesterday," said Raikkonen, who probably would have been on pole on Saturday if not for a mistake on his last lap.

"The car was good but there was nothing I could do."

With now only five races to go, Ferrari face an uphill battle to close the gap to its McLaren challengers for the drivers' world championship, leading some to believe that allowing Raikkonen to win might have been a cleverer strategy in Turkey.

"That is hardly the most important question of the day," Ferrari's Stefano Domenicali told the German broadcaster RTL after the race.

He added: "The most important thing is that we have both drivers right at the front."
