RCR renews with Chevy

Richard Childress Racing and Chevrolet announced an extension to their current relationship Saturday, and Hendrick Motorsports and Dale Earnhardt Inc. are soon to follow suit. What about Joe Gibbs Racing? Well that's doubtful. JGR, widely expected to join Toyota next season, is the only existing elite Chevrolet team that hasn't indicated that it is committed to Chevy for next year. Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager, said Chevrolet is still negotiating with all of its existing teams, including JGR. "We're still in negotiations with them," Peper said about JGR. "They have been an absolutely wonderful partner for us for many, many years. We just have the greatest of respect for them."

"We certainly have been able to support the teams that we have supported and it's our goal to support that number of teams," Peper said. "We are a big company, one of the biggest in the world. We have the winningest name in racing, and we intend to keep doing what we do, which is to win on the track.

"We are in racing because it is a great investment for us. So many people who attend NASCAR races and are passionate fans are passionate Chevy people. And so we need to be here."
