Massa invites Alonso to charity kart race

(GMM) In an apparent peace-offering, Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has invited Fernando Alonso to his annual end-of-season charity go-kart race in Brazil.

A report by the news agency Associated Press on Friday claims that, despite their post-race shouting match at the Nurburgring last month following an on-track clash, Massa in Sao Paulo "said he will also invite Alonso for the race in the southern city of Florianopolis."

The news was not repeated on the 26-year-old's personal website, but it did state that many drivers – including Rubens Barrichello, Luca Badoer, Nelson Piquet Jr and Vitantonio Liuzzi – were already confirmed for the event in the Brazilian city in late November.

Massa's 2006 teammate Michael Schumacher will also race.

"In fact, Michael should have come for last year's race but he was already committed with his children's vacation," Massa explained in Sao Paulo.

"In the beginning of this season, he asked me when it would happen this year.

"We like each other, and his presence represents the importance, seriousness and professionalism of the event."
