This time Tracy wasn’t to blame

This time, Paul Tracy's crash wasn't his fault.

The Scarborough native's bid for a third Champ Car win in front of his hometown crowd didn't make the first full lap of yesterday's Toronto Grand Prix.

Tracy, who started 10th, had made it through the first five challenging corners when he suddenly found the dislodged front wing from Simon Pagenaud's car under the nose of his Forsythe Racing machine.

"I didn't even see it," said a disappointed Tracy. "It was on the ground and I ran over it and that was it. I didn't even feel it."

Tracy pushed the broken wing down the track, but when he attempted to negotiate Turn 7, the car wouldn't oblige.

"I went down the straightaway and there was no steering," he said. "I turned for the kink in the straightaway and I had no steering; my wheel was off the ground so I was just sort of a passenger. We had a pretty good start. I got out of the hole pretty good and made up a few positions, so it's pretty disappointing."

Tracy said that while he's experienced a number of race oddities, this was a first.

"Once someone touches somebody else, the whole wing comes off," he said. The Star
