Doornbos hops from F1 car to Champ Car

Minardi Team USA rookie, Robert Doornbos spent today testing at Road America following a busy weekend in Indianapolis. Robert was on hand for the U.S. Grand Prix as Red Bull Racing’s test and reserve driver, and it seems he doesn’t ever quit working.

The Minardi Team USA squad traveled to the heart of Wisconsin Sunday, June 17 for their final testing event before the busy Champ Car season re-commences next weekend at the Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by La-Salle Bank. Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin is the home of Road America, which will host Round 10 on the Champ Car World Series. Robert did over 200 miles of testing, went through various set-up changes and familiarized himself with the challenging four mile track.

“This is a new part of the U.S. for me; I’ve heard a lot of good things about Road America. Some of the other drivers have compared this circuit to one of the greatest circuits in the world, in my opinion, Spa Francorchamps in Belgium. They were right, it is an amazing place, and I got used to it quickly, which is one of my strongest points since all of these circuits are new to me. We had a good car right from the start, and we tried different set-ups to use both here in August, and at Cleveland and Mont-Tremblant. In the next two days, I’m going to try to see some more of the Mid-West, and do some training to prepare for Cleveland."

“Things went according to plan; we had a good test and accomplished what we needed to do. They obtained good information in preparation for the race, and also allowed Robert to learn the track. We are glad to be in the top three today, and we are looking for both drivers to have good performances in Cleveland." Team Minardi USA
