Holmatro Safety Team honored by Boy Scouts
During Champ Car races the Holmatro Safety Team may not take a checkered flag or stand in Victory Lane, but they bring security and comfort to all those on and off the track, and in every meaning of the word they are some of Champ Car's biggest heroes.
In Portland, last weekend the Boy Scouts of America named the Holmatro Safety Team Motorsportsmen of the Year at their 18th annual Motorsports Breakfast. One of the biggest fund raisers for the Boy Scouts of America's Cascade Pacific Council, the Breakfast honors those who have made outstanding contributions to the sport. Several members of the team were in attendance and Safety Director Lon Bromley accepted the award on behalf of the team.
"I was blown away when I heard the Holmatro Safety Team had been chosen for this award," stated Safety Director, Lon Bromley. "The Boy Scouts of America is a very prestigious organization and to have them recognize us means a lot to me and the team. The Holmatro Safety Team and the Boy Scouts have a lot in common in that we both work in our communities and have a good outlook on life. It is really an honor to be able to accept this award on behalf of the team."
Proceeds from the breakfast support the Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America's Scoutreach effort in north, northeast, and southeast Portland. The mission of the Scoutreach is to partner with organizations that are dedicated to serving diverse youth in communities that are challenging to reach because of cultural, lingual, and socioeconomic issues. Since the Motorsports Breakfast's inception in 1989, over $300,000 has been raised, and more than 7,000 youth have been afforded the opportunity to participate in the Scouting program. In addition, about 400 camp scholarships, per year, are funded through the annual Motorsports Breakfast. ChampCar.ws
