New sponsor, bridge enliven race weekend

While the Grand Prix of Cleveland continues its search for a title sponsor for the 26-year-old event, it shows signs of a solid pulse after Chicago construction mogul Michael Lanigan, owner of Mi-Jack Promotions, purchased the event.

The June 22-24 event has a new presenting sponsor in LaSalle Bank, based in Chicago, and a new feature for the 10-turn venue at Burke Lakefront Airport. A pedestrian bridge is in place at the west end of the track and will allow race fans into the infield to watch the race and view the pits.

"We are always looking for ways to improve the fan experience," said Chuck Kosich, general manager of the Grand Prix. So we're excited to introduce the pedestrian bridge this year. The circuit here in Cleveland has always been one of the best places in the country for spectators to watch a race, and opening up the infield pit area will make it even better by giving fans the opportunity to enjoy the action from an entirely new vantage point."

As for LaSalle, the bank deal anchors increased sponsorship for the race.

"It is a pleasure to welcome LaSalle Bank," Lanigan said in a news release. "Having the support of the business community is vital in the success of our event, so I could not be happier that LaSalle Bank has chosen to make this investment in the Grand Prix." Cleveland.com
