Suspension problems ‘not serious’ – Ralf

(GMM) Ralf Schumacher on Friday dismissed premature suggestions that Toyota might have to withdraw from the Canadian grand prix.

The German's teammate Jarno Trulli experienced two identical front suspension failures during Friday free practice at Montreal, after driving normally over the curbs.

The Japanese squad then brought Schumacher's practice to a halt as well, fearing that the problem could also strike his TF107 racer.

He told the German broadcaster Premiere that the team is not sure what the problem is.

"That is what we now have to find out," Ralf, 31, said, explaining that he thinks he could have emerged higher on the time sheets if he had been allowed more track time.

Speculating that the suspension parts may simply have come from a bad batch, he said of Trulli's failures: "Clearly it was not his fault, but things like this can happen.

"I don't think it is too serious, and we will surely be able to race without any trouble.

"We already have a little idea what it might be and by this evening we will know more."

Schumacher also had a close call with some local Canadian wildlife on Friday, narrowly avoiding a groundhog which skipped across the track.
