New flexi test for Montreal

After the more than obvious attempt of Red Bull in the recent Spanish Grand Prix to run with a flexible rear wing, our spies in Monaco tell us that the sport’s governing body is planning on introducing a new load test for the next event on the calendar, the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

Additional to the current load test, which pulls the rear wing rearward, there will be another one aimed at pulling it vertically down and the most likely load will be 100 kg with a deformation of just 2 millimeters.

At the Monaco Grand Prix, Red Bull had already reacted to what everyone could see on the internet, video footage of what their wing was doing in Barcelona, bending down by approximately 25 mm at 300 kph, increasing their top speed by 6 kph and giving them 0.25 seconds per lap.

Even though they corrected it for Monaco, Frank Williams is still angry that the FIA did not react in Spain:

"I was cheated by an illegal car. Nobody can tell me that the video evidence is not clear enough. It is not good for Formula One, if Red Bull gets away without any penalty."

However, Max Mosley replied…
“Maybe we have to rethink the matter of flexible elements for the future, as it seems very difficult to police and to measure it."

However, another FIA-member simply said that whenever they introduce a new test, the teams come up with a new idea to circumvent it, and that, is so very true…….
