Denver latest city to run NASCAR out of town

After being run out of NY City and Seattle, Int’l Speedway Corp. (ISC) has “dropped" Commerce City, Colorado, as a potential site for a NASCAR racetrack according to a story in today's Denver Post. ISC Senior Dir of Corporate & Investor Communications Wes Harris said that the 1,300-acre parcel the company was considering next to Denver Int’l Airport was “not compatible with its needs." He added that the community “galvanizing against the racetrack also played a role" in the decision. Harris: “It was a combination of factors." Harris indicated that ISC is “still looking at several other sites in the Denver metro area, including a parcel near Front Range Airport in Aurora." He added that there is “no deadline for a decision."

With ratings dropping, attendance soft in some markets, and potential new markets rejecting a NASCAR track, it seems that the luster has indeed come off the NASCAR apple.
