Newey effect taking time at RBR – Coulthard

(GMM) It is taking time for the effect of Adrian Newey's talents to be felt at Red Bull.

That is the revelation on Saturday of David Coulthard, who was fifteenth quickest in the final pre-qualifying practice session at Sakhir in Bahrain.

He told the German broadcaster 'Premiere' that he thought his RB3 single seater's technical problem late in the session was a broken fuel pump.

The car is the first Red Bull to be penned entirely by Newey, who with Williams and McLaren earned a reputation for designing championship winning formula one cars.

So far, the 2007 Red Bull is about a second and a half on average slower than the leading pace.

Coulthard explained: "Adrian is only one individual and he can only work with the tools that he has at his disposal at the factory.

"Clearly those tools are a little different to what he had at McLaren.

"It is only the first year for him, but there is no secret to success in formula one. You simply need time and continuity."
