Williams play down Bahrain disadvantage
The Austrian was a promising sixth quickest in the afternoon practice session, although he later admitted to reporters that the time was probably flattered due to a low-fuel run on new soft Bridgestone tires.
Most formula one teams tested here for six days prior to the season opener, but Wurz said on Friday: "I think that we are now just about there with the others."
Teammate Nico Rosberg was ninth quickest and observed that the hot and slippery conditions, and probably also the heavy rain on Thursday night, may have played in the Grove based team's favor.
He said: "We went in the right direction and we caught up relatively quickly considering we didn't test here.
"Track conditions seem to be quite different from how they were in the test so, from that point of view, that's good for us."
Qualifying, meanwhile, is likely to be a battle between top squads Ferrari and McLaren, after Kimi Raikkonen's lap time advantage looked diminished compared with the pre-season test.
"We struggled a bit more than on the two previous grand prix Fridays," Ferrari's Luca Baldisserri confirmed, "in terms of finding a good balance on our cars."
McLaren's Fernando Alonso commented: "All in all I think we are closer to the Ferraris than we have been so far this season on a Friday."
