Spaniards tune in to watch Malaysia GP

Despite being on TV at 8:00AM, last Sunday's Malaysian GP pulled in a 26.5/64.8 share TV rating in Spain as over 4 million Spaniards tuned in on Easter Sunday morning to watch their hero Fernando Alonso. Alonso went on to win the race. The reason F1 and NASCAR get such high TV ratings is because they have made their drivers "heroes." CART used to have "heroes" but now Champ Car and the IRL's PR efforts are so diluted that their drivers do not get the recognition they deserve, hence never reach "hero" status hence they will NEVER get high TV ratings….hence they will never prosper. Driver turnover caused by lack of team sponsorship every year also kills any hope of drivers reaching "hero" status.
