Raikkonen would ‘fit’ at BMW – Theissen

(GMM) Mario Theissen will be keeping an eye on Kimi Raikkonen as the Finn's career at Ferrari races on.

The BMW motor sport director says that despite paddock speculation that the 'iceman' is not a hard worker, he believes Raikkonen would fit in at his Hinwil based team.

Prior to Sauber's acquisition by the German carmaker BMW, Raikkonen made his formula one debut for the Swiss squad in 2001.

Since then, he has earned a reputation for being arguably F1's quickest driver, despite consistently raising eyebrows for his apparent lack of focus.

"A driver who wins fits with BMW," team principal Theissen, when asked about Raikkonen, told Der Spiegel.

Mario, who still employs team founder Peter Sauber as a consultant, explained of 27-year-old Raikkonen: "I rate him highly.

"I have not worked with him personally, but I know the opinions about him.

"He always drives consistently for very competent teams, and perhaps like no other driver he can also cope with a car that is not perfect."

Raikkonen, the 2007 championship leader, won his first race in a Ferrari cockpit last Sunday.
