Mario Dominguez acknowledged in Mexico

Last week Mexican Champ Car driver Mario Dominguez, aka Super Mario, received an acknowledgment for his twenty-year career as a race car driver from the Mexican Government Sports Ministry, as well from the Mexican Federation of Auto Racing.

In interview for Televisa Deportes after receiving the acknowledgment Mario commented “I started when I was 11 racing go karts and right now is like if I were starting once again, I have not reached all my achievements yet. Everything I have learned in these 20 years I believe you have to take it forward so Mexico can achieve big triumphs and championships; I have always fought to place the Mexico’s name on the top" Dominguez added.

Carlos Hermosillo, Mexican Sports Secretary expressed his gratefulness and said that Mario is the kind of leader the country needs, “(they) have to be strong, (they) have to know perfectly that the only way to achieve their willpower in life is from effort (spirit), and tenacity."

Mario who still does not have a ride for the 2007 Champ Car championship, but is not losing hope. “I have three good offers [as we previously reported] from RuSPORT, Minardi and Conquest, but I don’t have any contracts yet. I am hoping to sign with someone (one of the teams) in the coming weeks."

Even receiving this kind of acknowledgment from the Mexican Government, Mario is still ride-less thanks to the poor interest of the Mexican companies in him and Champ Car. Many things should be in place for the season, like signing a TV contract to broadcast the entire season on Network TV as it was in the past in the golden years of CART on TvAzteca. When Champ Car realizes that these steps should be done before asking drivers to take sponsorship along them to the seat, many drivers like Mario may be able to land sponsorship.
