Martinez, Diaz eye Champ Car

UPDATE #3 This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today with Forsythe's announcement that he will run David Martinez in the Mexico City Champ Car race. Martinez also wants to land a full-time ride for next year.

09/20/06 Add Luis Diaz to the list of possibilities of a Mexican driver racing in the Mexico City race. Diaz, like several other drivers, is hoping to land a ride in one of the regular teams backup cars. Since this is the final race for the old Lola before it becomes a museum piece, the asking price to drive in Mexico City is said to be running around 50% of what it was in the past.

09/19/06 David Martinez's manager, Jorge Quintanilla, said today they are in negotiations with 4 different Champ Car teams to get a seat for Martinez in the last race of the season in Mexico City, According to Quintanilla, one of the teams is offering them a seat for half of the amount some teams were asking in 2005 for the seat in Mexico City. They are still looking for some Mexican sponsors. Joe Arrambide reporting from Mexico

07/18/05 AutoRacing1.com sources tell us that Mexican Toyota Atlantic driver David Martinez hopes to have sponsorship in place to move up to Champ Car in 2007. Currently he is the only Mexican driver in Atlantics, so he represents the future of Mexicans in Champ Car. As for 2006 he will either be back in Atlantics going after the big prize mentioned in our other rumor, or if he lands the spot for the Mexican A1 Grand Prix team, he might do that, but either way his goal is Champ Car for '07. We hear he almost had a Champ Car ride this year but was $1.5 million short of money. Mark C.
