Superfund eyes Pau street race

Formula Superfund has targeted a race at France’s historic Pau street circuit as it attempts to establish its credentials for its inaugural season. Following the announcement this week that the Formula 3 Euroseries will support Formula 1 at the Monaco Grand Prix next year, and with the F3 series also looking likely to follow the DTM to the new Avignon street race, speculation has increased that the Pau Grand Prix round of the Euroseries will be dropped. A spokesman for the Euroseries said discussions regarding the 2005 schedule were ongoing and the ASAC Basco Béarnais organization, which runs the Pau event, claimed that the Euroseries would continue to race at the venue next year.

But if the Euroseries decides that Pau represents one street race too many, Formula Superfund is ideally placed to step in. Series boss Martin Schneider has stated his desire for the championship to race on street
circuits and the provisional calendar, unveiled at the public launch of the car at the Nürburgring last week, has a round at an unconfirmed French venue on May 15. “Pau would be fantastic for us," said Schneider. “But it all depends on the organizers." Schneider said he had been surprised by the interest shown in the new series. He said three teams are close to committing, including one that has previously competed in F1. Current Euro 3000 outfit Team JVA confirmed its participation. Team boss John Village said: “We looked at GP2, but I don’t want to work in an F1environment. Anyway, I think the Superfund car is better." The Superfund racer is built by Force 10 and uses a Judd V10 engine that has its roots in the Yamaha F1 unit. Formula 3 Euroseries stars Alexandre Prémat and Bruno Spengler tested the car at Nürburgring and were impressed. Autosport Magazine
