Kanaan tops IndyCar practice in Texas, Qualifications cancelled

Tony Kanaan driving the #48 Chip Ganassi Honda that NASCAR hero Jimmie Johnson usually runs at the back, turned the fastest lap in the one and only IndyCar Texas Motor Speedway doubleheader practice session Saturday afternoon.

Kanaan’s lap of 220.173mph topped the Arrow McLaren Chevy of Pato O’Ward who put up a 219.934mph lap.

Last year’s Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato was third in the Rahal Honda.

Scott Dixon (Ganassi Honda) and Simon Pagenaud (Penske Chevy) rounded out the top-5.

After a delay to dry the track, the 90-minute session ran incident free.

Due to the rain delay for practice, qualifications have been cancelled for tonight’s Genesys 300.

Green flag for the Genesys 300 is set for 7 p.m. (ET) tonight at Texas Motor Speedway, with live coverage on NBCSN and the INDYCAR Radio Network. NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship point leader Alex Palou will start from pole.
