Indycar: Why Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson are wasting their time doing the Indy 500

Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson running both the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day next year is nothing more than a publicity stunt that has the IndyCar media salivating over.

Like it has always been.

Period.

Taking nothing from them regarding their driving skills, they are both very good drivers, bet here is why they will fail:

  1. A stock car driver will not have enough seat time in an IndyCar to win the Indy 500.  Period.
  2. The crew doing the pitstops is going to be a rag tag team thrown together just for that race. How will they perform?
  3. If the Indy 500 is rain delayed, they will miss being back in time for the Coca-Cola 600
  4. They will be tired after the 500 and the rush to fly back to Charlotte.  Winning the Coca-Cola 600 will take a miracle.
  5. If by some miracle, one of them does win the Indy 500, it will prove to the world that NASCAR drivers are indeed better than IndyCar drivers.
  6. If one of them crashes and gets hurt in practice, qualifying or the race, NASCAR team owners will never again allow one of their drivers to do the double.

In other words, by doing the double, they will fail at both races and win neither one.

One positive – the sagging Indy 500 TV rating will get a boost.
