IndyCar: Wind, then rain to hit Indy open test (Update)

With a forecast of inclement weather over the next few days, INDYCAR has updated the hours of its Indy 500 Open Test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to maximize time on track.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES drivers and teams will participate from 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. ET Thursday, April 20 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, April 21 on the famed 2.5-mile oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Open Test is being conducted in advance of the 107th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Sunday, May 28.

Veterans will take to the oval from 10 a.m.- noon Thursday, with the Rookie Orientation Program and refresher tests from noon-2 p.m. All eligible participants will be permitted on track from 2-6:30 p.m. Friday’s testing is open to all drivers eligible for participation.

Wind gusts of 33mph on Thursday followed by off and on rain on Friday is set to greet the IndyCar drivers and teams for this week’s open test ahead of the month of May.

Given the threat of rain on Friday, teams will look to get in as many laps as possible on Thursday in case Friday is a washout.

Thursday is at least set to be dry, with the mercury tipped to reach 81 degrees Fahrenheit – a good temperature for high speeds.
