NASCAR: Johnson withdraws from Chicago race after 3 found dead (Update)

Muskogee police said Terry Janway is suspected of shooting and killing her husband, Jack Janway, and their 11-year-old grandson, Dalton Janway. Terry and Jack’s daughter, Chandra Janway, is the wife of NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson.

According to a [Muskogee Police Department] media release, dispatch received a call at approximately 9:05 p.m. Monday from the residence at 2827 Suroya St. from a woman saying there was a disturbance and someone there with a gun — then hung up.

The release also says that when officers they found one victim, later identified as Jack Janway, laying in the hallway inside the house. Shortly after that, they heard another gunshot from further inside the house.

Officers pulled Janway outside and began making announcements for any other occupants to come outside.

Once more officers arrived, a search began of the residence and they found Terry and Dalton dead inside the house.

Hamlin said the incident is being investigated at a murder-suicide.

“That’s what they are still investigating but there appears there’s no threat to the community so it’s looking very likely that it’s a murder-suicide,” she said. Muskogee Phoenix

Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson has withdrawn from the NASCAR Cup Series race at the Chicago Street Course this coming weekend after a suspected murder/suicide in his wife’s family.

Her parents Jack and Terry Janway, as well Chandra’s 11-year-old nephew Dalton have all been killed in what police have said is a possible murder-suicide.

The shooting took place on Monday evening in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

As a result, Johnson has withdrawn from this weekend’s race.

“Legacy Motor Club has elected to withdraw the No. 84 Carvana Chevrolet from this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event in Chicago.

“The Johnson family has asked for privacy at this time and no further statements will be made.”

Reacting to the news, NASCAR released a statement that added: “We are saddened by the tragic deaths of members of Chandra Johnson’s family.

“The entire NASCAR family extends its deepest support and condolences during this difficult time to Chandra, Jimmie and the entire Johnson and Janway families.”
