Supercars: Will Brown takes pole position for Sandown 500
Will Brown has beaten Erebus Motorsport teammate Brodie Kostecki to ARMOR ALL pole position for the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 in an enthralling ARMOR ALL Top Ten Shootout.
The two Coca-Cola Camaros will share the front row for the first Sandown 500 since 2019, with Cam Waters and Will Davison making it an all-Ford second row.
Brown managed to turn the tables on Kostecki, who claimed provision pole in ARMOR ALL Qualifying earlier on Saturday.
It was Brown’s first ever pole position at Sandown, 5th for his career and 4th for 2023.
The 1-2 result with Perth’s Kostecki means Erebus will lock out the front row of the grid for tomorrow’s race start. The last time a team locked out the front row of a Sandown 500 was 1998 with Holden Racing Team driven by Mark Skaife and Greg Murphy.
“I’m petty pumped about this one,” said Brown who is partnered with Jack Perkins for this year’s enduro season.
“Enduro season is always awesome. To get pole at at the Sandown 500 is amazing. I knew I had a really fast teammate going out behind me and I had to out a good lap together. I’m stoked with it.”
Waters ended up the best-placed Ford in third ahead of fellow Mustang driver Will Davison.
Red Bull youngster Broc Feeney (Jamie Whincup will be Feeney’s co-driver) will start fifth alongside Ford’s Todd Hazelwood.
The Penrite Ford duo of Matt Payne and David Reynolds (who will share driving duties with Garth Tander) start side-by-side in 7th and 8th ahead of Mustang youngster Thomas Randle and Chevrolet’s Jack Le Brocq.
Big names Chaz Mostert and defending Supercars Champion Shane van Gisbergen having qualified just 16th and 19th respectively.
The 161-lap race will start at 2:15pm AEST tomorrow. The race is being broadcast exclusively live on Foxtel and Kayo, with highlights on Sunday night on the Seven Network and 7plus
