June 1, 2024

Good morning from the streets of downtown for the 2024 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear.

The weather, a crucial factor in our event, has been comfortable. However, some rain is forecast for late tonight and possibly early Sunday morning. The temperatures should be in the mid-70s for the IndyCar qualifying today at 12:15 p.m. ET.

Today, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES drivers will have a fast-paced day. The one-hour practice is scheduled for 9:10 a.m., and the Firestone Fast Six qualifying is at 12:15 p.m. The short day is due to the IMSA race, which is scheduled for 3:10 p.m.

Will this race feature alternate or primary tires?  The tire selection has been a challenging aspect this season due to Firestone’s adjustment of the tire hardness to accommodate the hybrid’s increased weight, which the series will debut at the Mid-Ohio race in early July.

Scott McLaughlin, the driver of Team Penske No 3 Gallagher Chevrolet, shared his insights on the tire situation.

“I think as the track grips up, tires are probably going to wear out less. We’ve seen this trend quite a fair bit. Yeah, I feel like it’s going to be more of a green tire race already.”

Stay tuned for updates on the sessions today.
