Future in doubt for some IRL teams
With several teams struggling for sponsorship, the IRL could have fewer cars than Champ Car for the first time since several larger Champ Car teams left for the IRL in 2003. Cheever Racing has lost Red Bull, Panther Racing does not have Pennzoil's full backing and Fernandez Racing isn't sure what to make of Delphi's bankruptcy. Then there's Rahal Letterman Racing, which lost money on Vitor Meira's car this year and might scale back to a two-car team. Ganassi Racing, which had 28 accidents this season, might do the same. The only teams talking about expansion are the one-car operations of Vision Racing, owned by league founder Tony George, and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. Indy Star
