Fisi, or Heikki, to BMW?

Yet again, speculation is mounting that Giancarlo Fisichella's immediate future at Renault is less than secure. The latest gossip in F1 circles is that the 32-year-old Roman, who failed to match world champion Fernando Alonso's pace in 2005 and gave away the Suzuka win on the last lap, may be moved on to partner Nick Heidfeld at BMW.

Flavio Briatore, goes the rumor, is keen to put the next Flying Finn – Heikki Kovalainen – in the second R26. It should also be noted, though, that the GP2 runner-up is also linked to BMW.

''You can think whatever you want,'' Giancarlo Fisichella said, ''but if my boss defends me the way he's been doing … I've got to keep cool.''

Indeed, 'Flav' – and his deputy Pat Symonds – have been at pains to hush the 'Fisico'-speculation by praising a job well done in China.

Fisichella was earnestly thanked and praised in Shanghai, after he 'controlled' the pace of the McLarens to help Fernando Alonso win the final grand prix.
