Homestead Friday News Tidbits – 1

In an unprecedented battle down to the wire for a championship in any series, Grand-Am is looking at a 6 way title chase for Sundays event.

Max Angelelli, Brian Frisselle, Alex Gurney, John Fogarty, Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas all competing with a gap of 10 points to the title.

Well…not quite. The real story is it is a 3 way battle, since the top teams put the same two drivers together for the season, each scores the same points (barring any penalties) Since that has happened before, it is not entirely unprecedented, but still makes for a great show.

Fogarty stepped out in front of the pack today and captured the pole handily with almost a 3/10 second gap to Brian Frisselle in second, with Memo Rojas having a little trouble and languishing back in 7th.

Ryan Hunter Reay showed well, pulling double duty this weekend from his full-time IndyCar ride, taking the 5th qualifying spot in a car he doesn’t even drive every weekend, which is impressive.

Regarding JC France being arrested, one crew member on a team that shall remain nameless, said, "just because some one has a lot of money doesn't mean they are not trailer trash. We saw that one coming a long time ago."

Nelson Piquet Jr. was seen milling around the track today…not too far from the Brumos transporters…

Could there be a big-news substitution in play (for J.C. France who is in jail…especially since he is looking at the Truck series… Scott Morris reporting from Homestead
