Allmendinger too slow to qualify again

In qualifying for the Auto Club 500, David Reutimann, driving a Toyota owned by Michael Waltrip, was the final car among those needing to get in on speed and ran 182.431 mph. That bumped his car owner out of the race, as Waltrip had run 182.278 mph. Meanwhile, AJ Allmendinger (right), who gave up a winning ride in Champ Car, once again was too slow to qualify for his 2nd straight Cup race in his Toyota. Brian Vickers, Allmendinger’s teammate at Team Red Bull, did qualify. He will start 15th after a lap at 183.852, proving it's not the car that is the problem.
