Racing this week on ESPN

The NASCAR Nationwide Series races in prime time at Daytona International Speedway on Friday night, July 2, and ESPN will have a live telecast of the Subway Jalapeno 250. The race will mark the debut of NASCAR’s new car for the Nationwide Series and Dale Earnhardt Jr. will compete driving a No. 3 Wrangler Chevrolet similar to cars his famous father raced in NASCAR in the 1980s.

NASCAR Countdown presented by Wrangler airs at 7:30 p.m. ET, while the race telecast starts at 8 p.m. with the green flag at 8:19 p.m. ESPN2 is the home of the series all season, with selected races airing on ESPN and ABC. Also from Daytona, ESPN2 will televise NASCAR Nationwide Series final practice on Thursday, July 1, at 5:30 p.m. and qualifying on Friday at 1 p.m.

Allen Bestwick will be the lap-by-lap announcer, joined in the booth for analysis by 1999 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Dale Jarrett and two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion crew chief Andy Petree. Pit reporters will be Dave Burns, Mike Massaro, Dr. Jerry Punch and Shannon Spake while two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion crew chief Tim Brewer will report from the ESPN Craftsman Tech Garage.

Nicole Briscoe will host NASCAR Countdown from the ESPN pit studio, with analysis by Jarrett and Brad Daugherty, a team owner in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Bodine, Wallace, Hinton on NASCAR Now Roundtable

NASCAR drivers Geoff Bodine and Mike Wallace and ESPN.com senior writer Ed Hinton will be panelists on NASCAR Now’s weekly roundtable discussion program airing Monday, July 5, at 5 p.m. ET. Allen Bestwick will host the edition of ESPN2’s daily NASCAR news and information program.

Nicole Briscoe hosts half-hour episodes of NASCAR Now airing late-night this week due to ESPN’s coverage of Wimbledon tennis. Programs air Wednesday, June 30, at 1 a.m. (late Tuesday night) and Thursday, July 1, at 1 a.m. (late Wednesday night). There will be no show on Thursday and coverage of NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying at Daytona airs Friday afternoon.

Briscoe also hosts the weekend edition of NASCAR Now airing Saturday, July 3, at 10 a.m. with a preview of that night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Daytona. David Newton and Angelique Chengelis will report from the speedway, joined by analysts Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree.

ESPN Classic Goes Back to 2000 Brickyard 400

With ESPN set to kick off its coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in a few weeks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, ESPN Classic is helping NASCAR fans get ready for the big event on July 25 by re-airing some previous editions of the Brickyard 400.

Highlights of the 2000 Brickyard 400 from Indianapolis will air on ESPN Classic on Monday, July 5, at 2 p.m. ET.

IZOD IndyCar Series Live on ABC from Watkins Glen

The IZOD IndyCar Series visits one of America’s great historic racetracks this weekend with its annual race at the famous Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International road racing circuit. ABC will have a live telecast of the race on Sunday, July 4, at 3:30 p.m. ET. Marty Reid will call the action on the telecast with analysis from former IndyCar star Scott Goodyear. Reporting from the pits will be Rick DeBruhl, Jamie Little and Vince Welch.

The event is the fourth of five races in the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season that will be produced by ESPN and air on ABC. The schedule also includes the upcoming event in Toronto on July 18.
