Milwaukee to get SAFER Barrier?

After Ryan Hunter-Reay's 171 G hit on Saturday into the Turn 2 Milwaukee Mile concrete wall someone said that Tony George is installing safer barriers at the Milwaukee Mile starting Monday. They were removed from the Speedway a few weeks ago, replaced by the 2nd generation barrier. However, we find it hard to believe they will use the same barriers as Indy given the difference in the turn radius. Perhaps it is close enough given the short segments the barriers come in.

The track does not currently have the barriers and if true, our hats off to Tony George for making this happen at Milwaukee. Given Saturday's Champ Car attendance and the expectation that the IRL will have a much bigger crowd, some wonder if Champ Car leaves the Milwaukee Mile whether the IRL will take its traditional date as the race after the Indy 500.
