Pre-Race Detroit Update

UPDATE No surprise here. INDYCAR has declared a wet start for today's race.

05/31/15 We are getting close to the start of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit Presented by Quicken Loans Duel 2 here on Belle Isle. While the rain is still steady, it has lightened up since the end of the 2nd qualifying session that was canceled. Latest reports from the tireless staff at AR1's Southeastern Michigan Weather Bureau say that the rain should end around 4 p.m. local time.

With it still raining, we imagine everyone will start on the wet tires. When and if it stops raining, the tire gamble and strategy will come into play. Then we will see what effect the 51 degree temperatures will have on the tires and their ability to maintain grip.

A final note: with the rain expect fuel windows to be longer. This could turn into a two-stopper should things go the full race distance. Of course, if it’s a timed race, then who knows how that will change strategy.
